Christopher Brown
Chris Brown brings a wealth of experience in athletics compliance. Brown worked at the NCAA national headquarters in Indianapolis for nearly five years.
From September 2014 to June 2019, Brown was a valuable staff member of the NCAA academic and membership affairs department. While at the national office, he served both Division II and III teams. His responsibilities included processing legislative relief waivers and interpretative requests, issuing legislative publications, and providing compliance-oriented educational initiatives for the membership. Prior to joining the NCAA staff, Chris worked in the compliance field for both the Ohio Valley Conference and Southeast Missouri State University.
As discussed in the introduction, Brown’s academic background is quite impressive. His undergraduate degree in History was obtained at Colorado State University. And Chris completed both of his master’s degrees from Austin Peay State University. His dedication to higher education led Dr. Brown on his quest of completing his doctorate degree at the University of Kansas.

Stephanie has more than 20 years of experience in intercollegiate athletics as an administrator, coach, and student-athlete. From January 2013 to May 2020, Stephanie worked in the NCAA’s regulatory affairs division as an assistant director of academic and membership affairs. In this role, Stephanie managed student-athlete reinstatement requests, complex amateurism certification cases, and waiver requests for Division I, II, and III institutions. In addition, she assisted Division II institutions with interpreting and applying NCAA legislation and helped Division I institutions create actionable Academic Progress Rate (APR) improvement plans. As staff liaison to the Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and several coaches associations, Stephanie conducted comprehensive legislative and policy research and created educational materials for coaches and student-athletes. Stephanie also served on the mental health waiver think tank steering committee and the inclusion strategic planning committee at the NCAA national office.
Prior to the NCAA, Stephanie was the assistant athletic director for compliance and student-athlete welfare at East Tennessee State University, where she directed all facets of Division I athletics compliance, rules education, and student-athlete development programming. Before ETSU, Stephanie was the assistant athletic director for compliance and student-athlete services and senior woman administrator at Western Oregon University, where she created the university’s first comprehensive Division II athletics compliance program, coordinated an internal gender equity/Title IX audit, and authored key provisions of the athletic department’s five-year strategic plan. Stephanie began her career in athletics administration in 2006 in the compliance office at Jacksonville University and served as JU’s director of student-athlete development before being promoted to assistant director of athletics for student-athlete services and eligibility. At JU, Stephanie designed and delivered an innovative, broad-based student-athlete support program that improved eligibility and retention rates for academically underserved student-athletes.
Before moving into an administrative role, Stephanie was an assistant rowing coach at Jacksonville University, Lehigh University, and her alma mater, the University of Tampa, where she was a Division II women’s rowing student-athlete.
